on TV:: the history channel has this series called THE UNIVERSE, and its truly staggering.
last night there was an episode on light speed. i found the following pretty amazing:
Alpha Centauri is the nearest star to our solar system…guess how near? you’ll never guess….because its 4.37 light years away. A light year is the distance it takes light to travel in one year, which is just under one trillion kilometers or 5,878,630,000,000 miles or 299,792,458 miles per second. So that means the closest star to us is about 25,689,613,100,000 miles away. The CLOSEST star!
I know our brains are not built to comprehend such vastness….and conversely, to think of our individual lives as tinier than ever fathomable. These images help me feel comforted.
its official…..machinemachine has a new buddy:::: The Butik
this is the uber cute boutique located in the heart of Honolulu and packed with colorful and easy to wear goodness….ran by the gals of Fighting Eel (i died over their just released collection!), so you know its special……go in, say hello, and try something on!
some new things for sale that use my most favorite vintage fabrics of all time….sigh….its a bit painful to say goodbye to them…….but that they become something wearable for some quirky little wahine out there it makes me happy…..
did some block printing yesterday of one of my girl-face images for more hangtags and also some packaging. because its all about details and quality::: a boring hangtag on an exciting piece of clothing is like not putting candles on a birthday cake.
i mainly get a kick from the merging of the two things i adore: printmaking and sewing. i would love to tell you more about the future inevitable marriage of these ways-of-making for machinemachine apparel, but i dont want to spoil the future products by talking about them before theyre actually made.
