some recent doodling in my sketch book; a few of them were trials for my hangtags and the rest are just characters. i do not think of them as all the same girl because they have different emotions—frustration, joy, nervousness, ire, envy, arrogance, bliss. i contemplated posting my sketches for new garment designs, but i felt odd—-i’d rather sew the new designs first and then post the sketches.
…when i have spare time, i enjoy taking vintage clothing and restyling them into little mini dresses….i sell these in my second etsy shop, Kahiko (which means “old”), in this shop there are all sorts of other vintage cuties and a few original drawings of mine. collecting vintage items is one of my big big big big big big loves and i cannot drive past a garage sale or thrift store without a sharp pang of yearning….i adore the hunt and marveling at the strangeness of a bygone era.
a mean storm was s’posed to man handle hawaii this weekend, only it didn’t arrive—and i don’t think i was alone in feeling a bit disappointed…i wanted a good excuse to stay inside and sew my fingers off, instead i worked the beautiful day away with the birds and ocean taunting me outside my window.
at least it was a productive weekend….made lots of tube dresses which will be going off to shops, but before they leave, i wanted to give online shoppers a sneak preview buying opportunity, so they are all on sale at etsy. click the pics to see more!
today, using all sorts of the recently acquired colorful vintage fabrics, i made a high waisted wrap skirt…this used to be something I made regularly, but i guess its something i need to be in the mood for…requiring a lot of stitching and taking much more time to sew than most of my other designs. I really should be making these more often, as they pretty much epitomize my aesthetic and are great sellers.
so heres a glimpse of some of the sewing that i did today….it was cacophonous!
