Ever wonder what exactly goes on at machinemachine’s handmade-headquarters? Well wonder no more; Here’s a peek into my process! To make the video more engaging we edited out all the coffee drinking, navel gazing, and out-into-space-staring that I spend most of my time actually doing when I’m “working.” Enjoy + feel free to pass it along to others who love handmade goodness action!
Kurt Vonnegut’s 8 Tips on How to Write a Great Story
1. Use the time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel the time was wasted.
2. Give the reader at least one character he or she can root for.
3. Every character should want something, even if it is only a glass of water.
4. Every sentence must do one of two things—reveal character or advance the action.
5. Start as close to the end as possible.
6. Be a Sadist. No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them—in order that the reader may see what they are made of.
7. Write to please just one person. If you open a window and make love to the world, so to speak, your story will get pneumonia.
8. Give your readers as much information as possible as soon as possible. To hell with suspense. Readers should have such complete understanding of what is going on, where and why, that they could finish the story themselves, should cockroaches eat the last few pages.

Thank you everyone who came out last night! It was a serious blast. I’m elated that my Travel-Found:India collection was embraced and nearly sold-thru! I’ve still got a bunch of Indian fabric to work with and I look forward to making more newness for my other retailers and webshop very soon. My head’s already spinning with dreams of another inspiring destination from which to build the next Travel-Found series…Iceland, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Japan? Yes sure why not!
a Small Craft Advisory is in effect for all Hawaiian islands blog readers
Introducing a new feature I’ll be doing every now and again on the small crafts that delight me! I’m calling it SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY. As much as possible it’ll be a tutorial style video with pictures and easy to follow instructions + suggestions on variations of the craft at hand. Look out in the very near future (this weekend) for the first official post of Small Craft Advisory which will be a how-to on newspaper gift totes. Can’t wait!
